Lotus Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: LOT) announced that its Emeya R+, also known as the Emeya 900, set a new electric vehicle lap record at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit, completing the 5.5-kilometer track in 2:20.317.
The time is more than seven seconds faster than the fastest publicly reported EV lap previously recorded at the circuit, which stood at 2:27.790. The record-setting run was driven by GT driver Daniel Lu.
Sepang International Circuit features long high-speed straights combined with a mix of fast and slow corners, placing demands on power delivery, braking, aerodynamic stability, and chassis balance.
Chong Yok Meng, Senior Director for Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics at Lotus, commented: "Setting the fastest EV lap at Sepang reflects the dedication of our engineering team and our commitment to delivering exceptional driver engagement, precision and performance."
The Emeya is a pure electric vehicle positioned as a grand tourer. Lotus Technology, which has operations across the UK, the EU, and China, is listed on the Nasdaq exchange.
