GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engine reaches 50 million flight hours

GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) announced that its GEnx-1B engine has surpassed 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years of service, according to a press release issued at the Farnborough Airshow.

The GEnx-1B, which powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family, is currently operated by more than 50 airlines worldwide and averages over 600,000 flight hours per month. The company reports a 99.98% dispatch reliability rate for the engine.

Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines and Services, said: "Reaching 50 million flight hours for the GEnx-1B in less than 15 years is a remarkable milestone, and it reflects the trust our customers place in GE Aerospace every day."

The broader GEnx engine family, which includes the GEnx-2B that powers the Boeing 747-8 and has accumulated 24 million flight hours since entering service in 2011, now totals nearly 75 million flight hours and nearly 12 million cycles across more than 2,700 engines in service, including spares.

GE Aerospace said it has invested in upgrades to the GEnx engine's high-pressure turbine blades and combustor coating technology over the past decade, which it says has more than doubled time on wing in harsh environments.

The company also stated it is investing $1 billion in 2026 across its U.S. manufacturing sites and supply chain, with over $100 million directed toward supplier capabilities for programs including the GEnx engine.
