British Airways picks Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for A320neo fleet

British Airways has selected Pratt & Whitney's GTF engines to power 33 firm and 30 option Airbus A320neo family aircraft, RTX (NYSE: RTX) announced at the Farnborough International Airshow.

Pratt & Whitney will also provide engine maintenance through a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive services agreement. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.

Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, said in a statement that British Airways becomes the newest GTF customer, describing the selection as "a strong vote of confidence in the GTF engine."

According to the company, the GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the prior generation of engines. Pratt & Whitney states that more than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently operated by more than 90 customers globally, with an order backlog of over 8,000 GTF engines.

The company also noted that its GTF Advantage engine is expected to enter service later in 2026, with claims of up to twice the time on wing compared to current variants.
