Investing.com -- Oppenheimer upgraded Ecolab (NYSE: ECL) to Outperform from Perform and initiated a $320 price target, citing improving momentum across its core businesses, accelerating contributions from its high-growth segments, and an attractive valuation following recent share weakness.
The brokerage said Ecolab is well positioned to deliver sustained earnings growth as its four strategic "growth engines"—Global High-Tech, Pest Elimination, Life Sciences, and Ecolab Digital—expand margins and accelerate organic revenue growth. It expects these businesses to complement the company's core operations, which continue to benefit from pricing power and solid execution.
Oppenheimer highlighted Ecolab's Global High-Tech segment as a key long-term growth driver, fueled by rising demand from AI-related semiconductor manufacturing and data centers. The firm said recent acquisitions of Ovivo's electronics business and liquid-cooling specialist CoolIT strengthen Ecolab's exposure to these fast-growing markets while enhancing its margin profile.
The brokerage lowered its 2026 adjusted EPS forecast to $8.13 from $8.53 to reflect non-cash amortization and financing costs tied to the CoolIT acquisition, while trimming its 2027 estimate to $9.28 from $9.55. However, it said the near-term dilution masks stronger long-term earnings potential as acquisition synergies materialize and AI-driven demand accelerates.
Oppenheimer said Ecolab currently trades at about 29.7 times its 2027 adjusted EPS estimate, below its five-year historical average valuation, and believes the stock deserves a higher multiple as organic growth and operating margins improve. The firm expects accelerating revenue growth and significant margin expansion to support its $320 price target over the next 12 to 18 months.
