VisionWave files provisional patent for hybrid passive radar system

July 17, 2026 8:03 AM EDT

VisionWave Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: VWAV) announced the filing of provisional patent application number 64/111,834 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a radar architecture called GhostSight™, according to a company statement.

The filing covers a hybrid passive radar system designed to use both existing environmental RF signals and company-controlled cooperative illumination sources to detect and track objects. The architecture is built around a passive receiver layer that does not need to transmit radar illumination, instead relying on distributed RF sources to shape the sensing environment.

The system is designed to combine ambient RF signals — including those from communications, broadcast, satellite, maritime, and aviation sources — with cooperative multi-band illuminator nodes. VisionWave states the architecture is intended to support both long-range tracking and short-range detection of smaller objects such as drones and compact UAVs.

The provisional application also covers AI and machine learning-based signal fusion to reduce false detections, classify objects, and display results on a live operational map. Potential use cases cited include counter-drone operations, border surveillance, airport security, maritime monitoring, and military base protection.

"Rather than relying only on a conventional radar transmitter or only on uncontrolled ambient RF sources, GhostSight™ is intended to create an intelligent sensing environment that can adapt to the mission, the RF landscape, the target type, and the condition of the network," said Danny Rittman, the company's chief technology officer.

A provisional patent application does not guarantee the issuance of a patent. VisionWave noted in its forward-looking statements that the filing may not result in commercial adoption of the technology.
