Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK) has been selected by Aalo Atomics as the control platform provider for the Aalo-X test reactor, according to a press release issued July 16, 2026.
The partnership supports Aalo Atomics' participation in the U.S. Department of Energy Reactor Pilot Program, which is designed to accelerate the development, authorization, and validation of advanced nuclear technologies. Aalo Atomics reached criticality on its pilot reactor ahead of its July 4, 2026, deadline.
Rockwell Automation will supply its ControlLogix platform, along with integrated control and information solutions, to support reactor operations and system reliability throughout the reactor's lifecycle.
"This collaboration highlights the growing need for proven industrial control systems to enable new energy technologies at scale," said Brian Holte, VP of Global Industry Sales at Rockwell Automation. "By supporting Aalo's path to first criticality, we're demonstrating how flexible, resilient platforms can accelerate the commercialization of advanced reactor designs."
"Rockwell brings deep expertise in mission-critical control systems that are essential for achieving our accelerated program milestones," said Yasir Arafat, President and CTO of Aalo Atomics. "Having a trusted automation partner is key to executing safely and efficiently and will help us pave the way towards commercial power."
The Aalo-X reactor is intended to serve as a testbed for modular reactor technology, enabling real-world validation of system performance. The two companies plan to continue collaborating as the program progresses.
