Stryker (NYSE: SYK) announced the U.S. commercial launch of the Mako RPS (Robotic Power System) for total knee replacement procedures on July 16, 2026, expanding its Mako robotics portfolio into handheld robotic technology.
The launch introduces the Mako Handheld Robotics platform, which operates alongside the existing Mako SmartRobotics with Mako 4, Stryker's robotic-arm assisted platform. Mako RPS combines intraoperative planning with a robotically enabled saw that uses Stryker's patented active adjustment technology, which responds to a surgeon's hand movements and helps maintain alignment with the surgical plan in real time.
The system is compatible with Stryker's Triathlon Total Knee System and does not require cutting blocks. It is built to work with Stryker's Q Guidance System.
"Customer response during the limited market release has been exceptionally strong," said Keith Evans, VP/GM of Stryker's Mako and Enabling Technologies business.
"By combining robotic technology with the clinically proven Triathlon Total Knee System, Mako RPS delivers an intuitive surgical experience that builds on the implant and workflow familiarity surgeons know and trust," said Lisa Kloes, vice president and general manager of Stryker's Knee business.
According to the company, the Mako platform has been used in more than 2.5 million procedures across 47 countries over more than two decades.
