AMD names Alan Smith as Corporate Fellow for GPU architecture work

AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) has appointed Alan Smith as a Corporate Fellow, the company's highest level of internal technical recognition, according to a statement from the Santa Clara-based chipmaker.

Smith's appointment recognizes his work in GPU architecture, with a focus on contributions to AMD's Instinct GPU product development and his role in advancing the company's AI and high-performance computing efforts.

"Alan's technical leadership in GPU architecture was critical to achieving AMD's product success across HPC, AI for science and data center AI computing," said Mark Papermaster, executive vice president and chief technology officer at AMD.

The Corporate Fellow title is reserved for engineers AMD considers among its most accomplished innovators. With Smith's appointment, 15 AMD engineers now hold the title.

David Wang, senior vice president of GPU Technologies and Engineering at AMD, noted Smith's role in fostering collaboration across engineering teams and his engagement with customers and partners.

"What has always motivated me is solving hard engineering problems and building the best technology that makes a real difference," Smith said in the statement.
