Modular Medical and IMO Health pilot insulin pump patient ID tool

Modular Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: MODD) and IMO Health have announced a pilot collaboration aimed at developing a terminology-powered algorithm to identify diabetes patients who may benefit from insulin pump therapy within electronic health records (EHR).

The pilot targets multiple-daily-injection patients who show clinical characteristics linked to insulin pump hesitancy or prior pump failure. Using IMO Health's clinical terminology identifiers combined with clinician-guided phenotypes, the tool is designed to surface eligible patients during routine clinical visits and reduce the burden of manual chart review.

IMO Health will translate defined clinical characteristics into validated terminology value sets that capture physician intent when documenting symptoms, findings, and diagnoses. The resulting model is intended to identify patients with an elevated likelihood of benefiting from pump therapy directly within the EHR.

"Clinicians often know which patients could benefit from pump therapy but identifying them within the EHR can be time consuming and inconsistent," said Matt McKinley, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Life Sciences at IMO Health.

Modular Medical CEO Jeb Besser said the collaboration is intended to support the company's commercial strategy as it prepares to launch its Pivot tubeless patch pump. "This collaboration with IMO Health should allow us to find those patients more effectively and bring modern pump therapy to individuals who may have been underserved by existing technologies," Besser said.

The pilot will be conducted with a large-scale diabetes center and is intended to establish a scalable framework for multi-site deployment. Modular Medical expects a fourth-quarter 2026 commercial launch of the Pivot pump, according to the company's press release.
