Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) announced it is partnering with Noetra Corp. to build an AI factory in Japan equipped with 13,750 Nvidia Vera CPUs and 27,500 Nvidia Rubin GPUs, delivering 140 megawatts of data center capacity built on the Nvidia DSX platform.
The facility, supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), will serve as the computing foundation for Japan's FRONTia Project, formally titled "Development of Multimodal Foundation Models with a View to AI Robotics and Physical AI." The project is intended to support AI development across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and telecommunications.
The AI factory will be architected using Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 racks and connected with Nvidia Spectrum-X Ethernet networking and Nvidia BlueField DPUs. It is designed to support training of trillion-parameter-scale AI models and the development of AI agents, digital twins and robotics applications.
Pretrained model weights developed by Noetra will be made available to domestic developers and enterprises, alongside software including Nvidia Nemotron, Nvidia Cosmos and Nvidia Isaac GR00T open models.
"Japan invented modern manufacturing. Now, it is building the AI factories that will power the next industrial revolution," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.
Ryosei Akazawa, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, said the FRONTia Project "will serve as the core of the country's physical AI ecosystem," adding that collaboration with global technology partners and Japan's manufacturing infrastructure will be used to build multimodal foundation models.
Japan's AI Robotics Strategy, released in March, set a goal for the country to capture more than 30% of the global AI robotics market by 2040, which METI estimates represents a $133 billion opportunity.
The announcement was made in Tokyo on July 16, 2026, according to a press release from Nvidia.
