BigBear.ai expands generative AI platform with air-gapped hardware

BigBear.ai (NYSE: BBAI) announced an expansion of its generative AI platform, introducing new hardware and delivery options aimed at Department of War mission teams operating in disconnected and classified environments.

The updated platform includes a new air-gapped local device supporting deployments up to Top Secret/SCI classification. Cloud-hosted configurations support deployments up to Department of Defense Cloud Impact Level 6. When connected to a network, users can access cloud-hosted AI models; when disconnected or air-gapped, locally hosted models provide continued access to platform capabilities without an external network connection.

The company is also introducing an additional procurement option that separates platform licensing from model access. Customers that manage their own model agreements can license the platform directly under a "bring-your-own-model" arrangement, while existing managed token-based options remain available. Both options run on the same underlying platform.

As part of the transition, the Ask Sage product brand will be phased out for Department of War customers and replaced with a redesigned BigBear.ai generative AI platform. BigBear.ai acquired Ask Sage previously and has since refactored the underlying platform.

The air-gapped device is available now and is scheduled to be demonstrated at the AFCEA TechNet Augusta event from August 17–20, 2026. The bring-your-own-model delivery option for dedicated tenants is expected to be available through BigBear.ai's contract vehicles in approximately the third quarter of 2026.
