Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (Nasdaq: KTOS) announced the opening of a 167,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania, along with plans to purchase more than $7 million in new production equipment, according to a company press release.

The new plant expands Kratos' existing Pennsylvania footprint to three facilities employing more than 440 people. The company said the site will support production of hardware for air defense, missile, radar, hypersonic, and counter-unmanned aircraft system programs.

Tom Mills, president of Kratos' C5ISR Division, said Pennsylvania operations recently completed delivery of solutions for High Power Microwave and High Energy Laser programs, including specialty structures, thermal management systems, and electrical subsystems.

Eric DeMarco, president and CEO of Kratos, said the expansion "marks another important milestone in continuing to grow Kratos' capability to provide mil-spec hardware for national defense and mission critical programs."

The company said the new facility provides additional space for manufacturing, systems integration, and testing, and is intended to scale production capacity for defense customers.
