Nordic American Tankers Ltd (NYSE: NAT) said three of its suezmax tankers that had been trapped in the Arabian Gulf since February 28, 2026, have been freed and are now trading worldwide, according to a company statement issued July 14, 2026.
Founder, Chairman and CEO Herbjorn Hansson said the company faces no significant insurance issues related to the vessels' involuntary stay in the Arabian Gulf. He added that the company's operations are unaffected regardless of whether the Strait of Hormuz remains open or closed.
The company stated that tanker rates for its one-million-barrel suezmax vessels remain high, citing a scarcity of available ships, and said it expects those conditions to persist for at least one to two years.
Nordic American Tankers noted that more than 50% of its business is conducted with major international oil companies, and that its fleet has loaded or discharged cargo in 68 countries over the past five years.
