Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) announced three milestones in its color MicroLED development program under the U.S. Government's Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program, according to a company press release.
The company reported achieving over 150,000 nits of single-panel, full-color brightness on a MicroLED display, which it states exceeds the program's threshold target. Kopin also reported early integration progress of its color MicroLED technology for U.S. Army ground soldier vision applications, including potential use in future Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) systems.
The third milestone involves the receipt and installation of new MicroLED bonding equipment at Kopin's headquarters in Westborough, Massachusetts. The equipment shipped in June and is scheduled to be fully installed by the end of July. The bonding system attaches a backplane to a MicroLED array to create a fully bonded display assembly.
Kopin said it expects to begin manufacturing product in mid-2027.
"Receiving and installing our bonding equipment is a foundational step in onshoring MicroLED production," said CEO Michael Murray. "Surpassing 150,000 nits of single-panel, full-color brightness demonstrates the strength of our technology roadmap."
Murray also referenced potential revenues tied to future programs, though the company's press release noted that forward-looking statements are subject to risks including changes in customer demand, program schedules, and manufacturing performance.
