Health Canada authorizes Dexcom G7 15 Day CGM for Canadian adults

Dexcom, Inc. (NASDAQ: DXCM) announced that Health Canada has authorized its Dexcom G7 15 Day Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system for adults 18 years and older living with diabetes.

According to the company, the device provides real-time glucose readings for 15.5 days per sensor and carries a mean absolute relative difference (MARD) of 8.0%, which Dexcom claims is best-in-class accuracy compared to competing systems. The longer wear period results in fewer monthly sensor changes relative to the existing Dexcom G7.

The G7 15 Day retains features from the standard G7, including waterproofing to a depth of eight feet for up to 24 hours, direct connectivity to Apple Watch, a 12-hour grace period between sensor sessions, and the ability to share glucose data remotely with caregivers.

Despite receiving Health Canada authorization, the product is not yet available for purchase in Canada. André Côté, Vice President and General Manager of Dexcom Canada, said in a statement: "Our focus is on ensuring that when the product becomes available, Canadians living with diabetes and their healthcare providers have the support, education, and experience they need from day one."

Diabetes Canada estimates that more than four million Canadians are living with diabetes.
