Stoke Therapeutics names Thomas McCauley as chief scientific officer

Stoke Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: STOK) has appointed Thomas McCauley, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer, the Bedford, Massachusetts-based biotechnology company announced.

Dr. McCauley joins Stoke with more than 25 years of experience leading research and development teams. He most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Neptune Bio. He has also held the role of chief scientific officer at Omega Therapeutics, Macrolide Pharmaceuticals, and Translate Bio. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Shire, where he was involved in the late-stage development and global approvals of multiple genetic medicines for rare diseases, as well as at Inotek Pharmaceuticals and Archemix Corp.

In his new role, Dr. McCauley will lead Stoke's scientific strategy and work to expand the company's pipeline using its proprietary RNA medicines platform.

Smith, chief executive officer and director of Stoke Therapeutics.

Dr. McCauley holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Applied & Engineering Physics from Cornell University and received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Stoke's lead investigational medicine, zorevunersen, is an antisense oligonucleotide being developed for Dravet syndrome, a severe epileptic condition. The company has a collaboration with Biogen (Nasdaq: BIIB) to develop and commercialize zorevunersen, under which Stoke retains exclusive rights in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
