Rambus launches DDR5 9600 server RDIMM chipset for AI workloads

Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS) announced a DDR5 9600 Server RDIMM chipset designed for next-generation CPU-based server platforms, according to a company press release.
The chipset is built around a new 6th Generation Registering Clock Driver (RCD06) operating at 9600 MT/s, which the company says represents a 20% increase in data rate over its prior generation solution.
The complete chipset includes the RCD06, a PMIC5030 power management IC, a Serial Presence Detect (SPD) Hub with integrated temperature sensor, and dedicated Temperature Sensor ICs. Rambus says the integrated design is intended to reduce development complexity for memory module manufacturers.
"The rapidly accelerating adoption of agentic AI and AI inference workloads is driving unprecedented demand for higher memory bandwidth and capacity in the data center," said Rami Sethi, SVP and general manager of Memory Interface Chips at Rambus. "With our DDR5 9600 RDIMM chipset featuring the new RCD06, Rambus continues to extend its leadership in high-speed memory interface solutions, enabling our customers to deliver the performance and reliability required for next-generation server platforms."
Soo Kyoum Kim, associate VP at IDC, commented that memory bandwidth, latency, and reliability are becoming critical system-level design considerations as data center architectures evolve to support more complex workloads.
