BankUnited hires Chad Loar as head of commercial banking

BankUnited Inc. (NYSE: BKU) has hired Chad Loar as executive vice president and head of commercial banking, according to a company statement. Loar will oversee the bank's commercial operations across Florida, New York, New Jersey, Texas and the Southeast.
Loar joins BankUnited from PNC Bank in Tampa, where he most recently served as regional president, overseeing the bank's operations across the west coast of Florida. He previously held senior leadership roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Fifth Third Bank, also in Tampa. He has 25 years of experience in the banking industry.
In his new role, Loar will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of BankUnited's commercial banking business, including growth across lending, deposits and treasury services. He will report to Ernie Diaz, senior executive vice president, consumer and commercial/small business executive.
Loar holds an MBA from the University of Florida and a bachelor's degree from Florida State University. He will be based at BankUnited's Tampa corporate office.
BankUnited, headquartered in Miami Lakes, Florida, reported total assets of $35.4 billion as of March 31, 2026.
