Genworth Financial CEO takes health leave; CFO named interim chief

Genworth Financial, Inc. (NYSE: GNW) announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas McInerney is taking a temporary leave of absence for health reasons, with Chief Financial Officer Jerome Upton named Interim President and CEO effective immediately.
Upton has been with Genworth and its predecessor companies since 1998 and has served as CFO since March 2023. He has held executive roles across finance and operations in multiple business lines and geographies.
Melina Higgins, Genworth's Board Chair, said in a statement: "Our thoughts are with Tom and his family as he recovers, and we look forward to his return. Genworth is well positioned for continued success with a strong bench of talented leaders."
McInerney joined Genworth as President and CEO in January 2013. The company did not provide a timeline for his expected return.
Genworth Financial is a publicly traded holding company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and is the majority owner of Enact Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: ACT).
