Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) has acquired Skycatch, Inc., a provider of spatial data capture, processing, and analysis solutions for the mining industry, the company announced July 7, 2026.
Skycatch's technology captures high-frequency, high-precision spatial data and pairs it with AI capabilities designed to identify, measure, and analyze operational data. The acquisition follows Caterpillar's recent purchase of RPMGlobal, a mining software company, and is intended to integrate Skycatch's capabilities into both RPM and MineStar solutions.
Denise Johnson, group president of Caterpillar Resource Industries, said the integration of near-real-time, high-resolution spatial data into existing solutions is aimed at improving mine site safety, productivity, and predictability across staffed and autonomous fleets.
Richard Mathews, CEO of RPMGlobal, said Skycatch's ability to process large volumes of spatial data at faster speeds enables miners to adjust plans as conditions change and improve alignment between planning and execution.
The technology generates a near-real-time digital twin of a mining site that can be integrated into planning and execution workflows. Caterpillar reported 2025 sales and revenues of $67.6 billion. Financial terms of the Skycatch acquisition were not disclosed.
