AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) has received a $30.9 million purchase order through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to supply its Puma unmanned aircraft systems to the German Bundeswehr under the LARUS airborne reconnaissance program.
The contract covers a comprehensive package of Puma AE (All Environment) and Puma LE (Long Endurance) systems, including high-definition laser-designating electro-optical/infrared payloads, Signal Intelligence payloads, Vertical Take-off and Landing kits, next-generation ground control stations, Mobile Ad hoc Network communications relays, and Autonomy Retrofit Kits. A support package including training, field repair kits, and launch systems is also included. Deliveries are required no later than late 2026.
The LARUS program is managed by Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). Germany has previously operated the Puma AE system, and the new order expands both capacity and capability across the extended Puma family.
"Germany has been a long-standing Puma operator, and this award represents a decisive step into the fully modernized Puma family," said Wahid Nawabi, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at AeroVironment.
Trace Stevenson, President of Autonomous Systems at AeroVironment, said the order marks "the first time a customer has taken essentially the entire Puma capability stack in a single program."
