SunPower names Tom Kowalczuk as chief financial officer

SunPower Inc. (NASDAQ: SPWR) has appointed Tom Kowalczuk as Chief Financial Officer, reporting to Chairman and CEO T.J. Rodgers, according to a press release from the Orem, Utah-based solar company.

Kowalczuk spent 15 years at Beam Suntory, rising from a Sarbanes-Oxley accountant to lead a finance group supporting a manufacturing operation with more than $2 billion in annual revenue. Most recently, he served as CFO of Bespoken Spirits, a Lexington, Kentucky startup, where he doubled revenue while cutting operating expenses by half and reducing cash burn.

Kowalczuk holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a double major in accounting and finance from Northeastern Illinois University. He is also a certified public accountant.

Rodgers said the role required a candidate capable of both establishing financial controls and managing finance integration during acquisitions. "Tom Kowalczuk has done both," Rodgers said, noting that he had worked with Kowalczuk for two years during his tenure at Bespoken, on whose board Rodgers sits.

Kowalczuk said his focus will be on building a finance organization that delivers timely reporting, strengthens internal controls, and supports business operations. "By creating one set of numbers, one disciplined close process, and one financial operating model, we can give the entire organization the visibility, accountability, and financial discipline needed to execute with confidence," he said.

SunPower filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024. The company has since been in a rebuilding phase under Rodgers and original founder Dick Swanson.
