EU approves Zoetis poultry vaccine for Newcastle and Marek's disease

Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS) has received European Commission marketing authorization for Poulvac Procerta HVT-ND, a recombinant vector vaccine that protects chickens against both Newcastle disease and Marek's disease in a single dose, according to a company press release.

The vaccine can be administered either in ovo or by subcutaneous injection at hatch. It uses the herpesvirus of turkey as its vector, expressing a Newcastle disease virus antigen to stimulate immunity against Newcastle disease while simultaneously providing protection against Marek's disease.

Newcastle disease is a notifiable disease under EU animal health regulations and has been linked to confirmed outbreaks in Germany, Spain, and Poland. The vaccine is already approved in more than 35 markets globally, including several southeast Asian countries.

Poulvac Procerta HVT-ND is the third vaccine in the Poulvac Procerta range to receive European Commission authorization. Poulvac Procerta HVT-IBD, which protects against infectious bursal disease and Marek's disease, was the first. Poulvac Procerta HVT-IBD-ND, authorized in 2025, protects against Newcastle disease, infectious bursal disease, and Marek's disease in a single dose.

"The EU approval is significant because it unlocks export opportunities for poultry producers in southeast Asian countries, where the vaccine is already approved."
