North Carolina Governor Josh Stein released a state AI Strategic Roadmap, outlining a framework for advancing artificial intelligence across state government, education, workforce development, and consumer-facing industries, according to a press release from LendingTree (NASDAQ: TREE).

Sarah Bacha, Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy and Analytics at LendingTree, served on Governor Stein's Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council, which was charged with developing recommendations to guide the state's AI strategy. The council included leaders from industry, academia, government, and the nonprofit sector.

"North Carolina's AI Strategic Roadmap is a model for how states can approach this rapidly evolving technology," Bacha said. "The recommendations reflect a thoughtful balance between fostering innovation and establishing the guardrails necessary to build public confidence."

Governor Stein described the roadmap's intent in a statement: "This roadmap gives our state a strategy to protect people from harm, prepare our workforce for opportunity, and transform how government serves the public."

Hala Shakra, Director of AI Strategy at LendingTree, also spoke on AI governance at the Fintech + Insurtech Generations conference held in Charlotte, N.C. "The mindset of governance is to not think of it as slowing AI down. If done well, it can create clarity," Shakra said.

The roadmap positions North Carolina to compete for investment and talent while promoting what the state describes as ethical AI adoption.
