AeroVironment wins $80.5M contract for counter-drone systems

AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) announced that Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) has selected its Titan MS (Multi-Sensor) counter-UAS system for an $80.5 million contract award in support of the Domestic Shield program.

The award is being executed against a $500 million Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) sole-source contract previously announced by AeroVironment. Domestic Shield is a Department of Defense initiative to strengthen counter-UAS protection for defense critical infrastructure and other high-priority homeland defense sites.

Under the purchase order, AeroVironment will deliver Titan systems to enhance the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command's layered air defense capabilities against small unmanned aircraft system threats. The award follows a previous JIATF-401 purchase of a Titan counter-UAS system.

"This investment provides operators with the tools to detect, track, and defend against illicit drones," said Col. Jason Idleman, chief for multi-domain operations division at JIATF-401.

Titan MS is described as an AI-powered, multi-sensor fusion solution that detects, identifies, tracks, defeats, and reports on unmanned system threats across air, sea, and land environments. According to the company's press release, AeroVironment delivered 118 Titan 4 systems and 400 Titan-SV systems worldwide during the most recent quarter. The Titan system is currently deployed in 17 countries, including three new international customers added during the quarter.

The Titan family includes Titan3, Titan4, and Titan-SV variants. AeroVironment introduced the Titan4 in 2025, a portable variant the company says is deployable in under five minutes, with a chassis described as 17% lighter and 73% smaller than its predecessor.
