Navan launches MCP to connect travel data to AI tools

July 2, 2026 9:00 AM EDT

Navan (NASDAQ: NAVN), a business travel and expense platform, has launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) that allows customers to connect the platform to external AI tools and access travel and expense data through natural language queries.

The MCP enables travel and finance administrators to query spend, booking, and policy data through AI interfaces including Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor. Example queries include identifying out-of-policy spending across global teams, flagging unapproved expenses above a set threshold, and summarizing departmental spend by category.

The initial deployment offers read-only access to corporate travel and expense data. Navan said future functionality is planned to include write-access tools such as approving out-of-pocket expenses, updating travel policies, and enabling travel bookings within third-party interfaces.

"Navan's MCP is an important step in bringing our entire ecosystem directly into employees' everyday workflows," said Dane Molter, SVP of Navan Group Travel Marketplace. "We've built this using over a decade of Navan's data, making it one of the most context-aware MCPs for travel and setting the stage for even more functionality in the future."

Navan described the launch as part of its "Navan Anywhere" distribution strategy. Administrators can activate the integration through the platform's configuration settings, with technical documentation available via the Navan Developer Portal.
