AI agents will soon match human trading skills, Robinhood CEO says

Investing.com -- Robinhood Markets CEO Vlad Tenev told CNBC Thursday that AI agents will soon be able to match the capabilities of human traders as the company expands its artificial intelligence tools.

The company introduced tools in May that allow AI agents to trade stocks and make purchases on behalf of users.

"The idea behind agentic trading…[is] every capability a human can do will be available to an AI agent," Tenev said in a CNBC interview.

Tenev noted that a large portion of trades are already automated and AI powered, drawing from his experience with programmatic trading before founding Robinhood.

"But that type of intelligence and complexity has been out of reach from everyday people," he added.

"The end state of agentic trading at Robinhood is to give the everyday person access to the same tools, the same computation, the same power that institutional investors in high-frequency trading firms have been enjoying for several decades," Tenev said.

Wednesday, Robinhood announced it would launch crypto trading in the United Kingdom as part of its European expansion.

In April, the company missed first-quarter profit expectations as crypto-driven market volatility affected trading activity. The company also announced that month it would act as a broker and trustee for the Trump Accounts, which have not yet been released, in partnership with the U.S. Treasury and BNY Mellon.

"The goal is to make this the best consumer product that the government’s ever been associated with," Tenev said.

Robinhood serves nearly 28 million customers across 38 countries and three continents. Shares rose more than 3% in premarket trading Thursday after gaining 8.35% Wednesday. The stock is down around 5% in 2026.
