Wrap Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WRAP) announced that the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Police Department has purchased BolaWrap 150 devices along with non-lethal response training, marking the university's initial deployment of non-lethal capabilities for campus safety.
The purchase includes training on deployment, policy alignment, and scenario-based application of the BolaWrap device, according to a company press release.
"Our priority is to support a safe campus environment while giving officers additional tools that align with responsible, measured response," said Lt. Col. Ed McDermott of UMBC. "BolaWrap provides a non-lethal capability that may help officers intervene earlier, reduce escalation, and create opportunities for safer resolutions when circumstances allow."
Jared Novick, Wrap Technologies president, said UMBC officers are expected to learn proper deployment and scenario-based application of the device as part of a broader non-lethal system.
The BolaWrap 150 is a handheld device that deploys a restraint tether. The company states it does not use pain-based compliance and does not shoot, strike, shock, or incapacitate subjects. Wrap Technologies says the device is used by more than 1,000 agencies across the U.S. and in 60 countries.
In addition to the BolaWrap device, Wrap Technologies offers a portfolio that includes the Wrap Reality immersive training platform, WrapTactics learning management system, and WrapVision body-worn camera and evidence management solutions.
