Teledyne FLIR Defense and STORM partner on drone vehicle system

Teledyne FLIR Defense, a unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), and Norwegian company STORM have announced a partnership to integrate Teledyne FLIR's Black Recon vehicle reconnaissance system with STORM's Rapid Adapt and Deploy System, known as RADS. The agreement was signed at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris.

Under the partnership, Teledyne FLIR becomes a RADS Application Partner, giving it a standardized route to deploy Black Recon across a wider range of vehicle types, including pickups, all-terrain vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles, snowmobiles and boats, as well as a standalone configuration operable by a single operator.

Black Recon allows crews to autonomously launch, operate and recover up to three small reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles from fixed sites or from inside a vehicle. Each UAV carries electro-optical and thermal cameras and is operated from within the vehicle cabin.

RADS uses an open, modular architecture built around a patented mounting system that allows technology to be integrated, moved between vehicles, or upgraded without bespoke engineering work.

"RADS gives us a standardised way to put Black Recon onto the platforms our customers already field and to do it at scale," said Harald Sørensen, Vice President of Norway Operations at Teledyne FLIR Defense.

The partnership also provides Teledyne FLIR Defense access to STORM's distributor network and RADS-equipped fleets. The companies said they will explore integrating additional Teledyne FLIR products onto the RADS platform as development continues.
