IFF launches light-activated fragrance platform for liquid detergents

IFF (NYSE: IFF) announced the launch of Sensora, a patent-pending pro-fragrance technology platform that uses light activation to release scent over time, with the first application targeting liquid detergents.

The technology is designed to extend scent presence on fabrics for up to 20 days after activation. The release is triggered by both indoor and outdoor light, enabling a phased delivery of fragrance from storage through use.

The first product under the Sensora platform is Floral Fusion, a light-activated pro-fragrance formulated for liquid detergents. IFF described it as part of its fragrance experience enhancer portfolio, releasing floral notes on dry fabrics beyond the original scent profile.

IFF cited results from a global usage and attitudes survey conducted across 17 countries in 2026, finding that more than one-third of consumers expect laundry fragrance to last longer, and nearly one in four want scent to remain noticeable for at least four days.

"Sensora gives our customers a powerful new way to differentiate in laundry care, a category where consumers increasingly expect fragrance to deliver both lasting impact and elevated sensorial pleasure," said Jan Bechtel, senior vice president of consumer fragrance for IFF Scent.

The company said Sensora is part of its Scent+ innovation pillar and is designed to integrate into existing fragrance compositions. IFF indicated the platform is intended to expand into home, fabric, and personal care applications beyond its initial fabric care launch.
