Equifax (NYSE: EFX) secured 39 new patents in the first half of 2026, expanding its global intellectual property portfolio to more than 750 issued or pending patents worldwide, according to a company statement.
Of the newly secured patents, 14 directly support the company's artificial intelligence initiatives. The new patents span three areas: explainable AI, identity verification and fraud detection, and multi-system data orchestration.
Among the grants is a Canadian patent covering a methodology for optimizing neural networks for risk assessment. The invention has now been granted in 11 countries, including the U.S., Australia, and India. The system is designed to make AI-based credit scoring decisions transparent by enforcing a defined mathematical relationship between inputs and outputs, enabling the generation of regulatory reason codes for consumers.
A U.S. patent was also granted for a fraud risk assessment method that evaluates identity elements such as email addresses, phone numbers, and device IDs to assess risk in card-not-present transactions. A separate U.S. patent covers data transformation techniques that coordinate data flows across multiple computing systems to improve real-time fraud detection.
Equifax states its data platform ingests 20 billion records per month globally and manages more than 250 billion keyed and linked records, part of a cloud transformation the company has valued at more than $3 billion.
"Our hundreds of inventors around the world focus on patenting technology that maximizes the value of proprietary data in an increasingly AI-focused business environment," said Harald Schneider, Global Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Equifax.
