WEX (NYSE: WEX), a Portland, Maine-based payment solutions company, announced a three-year, $500,000 philanthropic partnership with Ronald McDonald House, marking the company's first global charitable commitment of this kind.
Under the agreement, $50,000 of the total funding will go to Ronald McDonald House Maine, the chapter closest to WEX's headquarters. The remaining funds will support the organization's global network, with priority given to chapters in areas where WEX employees are based.
Ronald McDonald House operates through 250 independently run chapters across more than 60 countries, providing accommodations, meals, and support services to families of children receiving medical care.
Alongside the financial commitment, WEX has set a target of 30,000 volunteer hours from its global workforce in 2026. The company already offers employees 16 hours of paid volunteer time annually. Volunteer activities will be coordinated with local Ronald McDonald House chapters and may include meal preparation and property maintenance.
"Partnering with Ronald McDonald House globally is a choice to bring hope and humanity to families when they are navigating their toughest chapters," said Sandy Kuohn, chief people officer at WEX.
Lauren Biedron, chief philanthropy officer at Ronald McDonald House Global, said the company's "multi-year commitment and global volunteer engagement" will help families stay connected to their children during medical care.
WEX employees have previously volunteered at Ronald McDonald House chapters in Portland, Maine; Fargo, North Dakota; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Dallas, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and international locations in Ireland, Singapore, and Australia. The company said it plans to expand volunteer activity in the United States and Brazil through the new partnership.
