L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has broken ground on two additional buildings at its Arkansas Advanced Propulsion Facilities campus in Camden to expand production capacity for the U.S. Army's PAC-3 propulsion systems, according to a company statement.
The two new facilities include a approximately 75,000-square-foot cast, cure and final assembly building and an approximately 70,000-square-foot case preparation facility. Both will incorporate automated X-ray inspection systems using AI for defect detection, fully automated casting, and expanded curing capacity.
L3Harris is self-funding the expansion. "We're self-funding these new facilities in Arkansas to move at the speed this mission requires," said Christopher Kubasik, Chairman and CEO of L3Harris. "This expansion boosts our ability to deliver PAC-3 propulsion faster and at greater quantities."
The company produces the PAC-3 MSE interceptor's two-pulse solid rocket motor, Attitude Control Motors, and Lethality Enhancer. The AAPF campus is designed to support production of medium and large solid rocket motors for tactical and air defense missiles, missile defense targets, interceptors, hypersonic vehicles, and missile defense applications.
L3Harris and Arkansas state officials broke ground on the broader AAPF campus last year. The company said it is building approximately 60 facilities and expanding its manufacturing footprint by nearly one million square feet across sites in Alabama, Arkansas, and Virginia.
