Samsara Inc. (NYSE: IOT) introduced a 360-degree camera designed for operated equipment such as forklifts, baggage tugs, and excavators, along with expanded AI Multicam features and two-way voice capabilities through its dash cam, according to a company press release.
The Samsara 360 Camera captures a full 360-degree view from a single mount point with interactive pan and zoom functionality. The company claims it is the first camera system built specifically for powered equipment used in warehouses, construction sites, mines, and airports. Alaska Airlines is among the early users, with Mehdi Jnah, Director of Ground Support Equipment at the airline, stating the camera extends safety coverage to baggage tractors, tugs, and pushbacks on the ramp.
Samsara also expanded its AI Multicam system for road fleets with two new features. Bird's Eye View generates a top-down composite image of a vehicle's surroundings using multiple cameras, intended for use during reversing and tight maneuvering. Rear Collision Warning and Vehicle in Blind Spot Detection deliver audio and visual alerts processed on the device rather than through a remote server.
The company's dash cam now supports two-way voice communication, allowing drivers and managers to speak directly through the device. The feature also enables automated AI prompts when a driver enters a geofenced zone, delivering information such as speed limit changes or parking restrictions without a dispatcher call.
Johan Land, Chief Product Officer at Samsara, said the additions are intended to improve safety for frontline workers across both equipment operations and road fleets.
