Oracle Health and Theator announced a collaboration to provide AI-powered surgical documentation solutions to Oracle Health customers in the U.S., according to a press release issued June 24, 2026.
Theator's platform, Surgery-to-Text®, captures intraoperative video and uses computer vision and AI to analyze surgical procedures in real time, automatically generating operative reports. The system cross-references electronic health record data and produces a structured report by the time a procedure concludes, which the surgeon can then review and sign within their existing workflow.
The collaboration aims to address a documentation gap in surgical settings. Peer-reviewed research published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons found that operative reports written from a surgeon's memory achieve only 72.8% accuracy. Theator's documentation accuracy has also been validated in the same journal, showing statistically significantly higher accuracy than memory-based reports (p=0.001).
Theator's platform runs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and integrates directly with Oracle Health's electronic health record system, making reports available to care teams, quality reviewers, and billing staff. The companies said this integration is intended to reduce coding gaps and improve revenue cycle management for surgical procedures.
Theator states its platform has analyzed more than 600,000 procedures across more than 150 procedure types and is deployed at health systems including Mayo Clinic and UHealth Miami.
"Clinical documentation has reached almost every setting in medicine, but it has stopped at the door of the operating room," said Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences.
Tamir Wolf, MD, PhD, CEO of Theator, said the partnership "changes the architecture of how surgical data enters the health record."
Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
