Intrado extends AT&T deal to support next-gen 9-1-1 compliance

Intrado announced an expanded collaboration with AT&T (NYSE: T) to support next-generation 9-1-1 emergency communications across AT&T's wireless and VoIP services, according to a company press release.

The agreement centers on Intrado's NG Nexus platform, which is designed to help AT&T meet requirements set by FCC Order 24-78, a federal regulation establishing updated nationwide standards to accelerate the transition to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) technology.

The NG Nexus platform is intended to provide improved emergency call routing, more accurate caller location data, and interoperability with NG 9-1-1 systems. Specific features include location information servers, reference data functions, location routing functions, and IPv6 support for call routing precision.

The collaboration between the two companies spans more than two decades. Joe Custer, CEO of Intrado, said the strengthened alliance will "support implementation of the FCC's NG 9-1-1 regulatory framework while advancing the next generation of accurate, resilient, and dependable emergency response capabilities."

Gordon Mansfield, VP of Global Tech Planning at AT&T, said the partnership provides confidence that the company is "building infrastructure that will serve our customers reliably for years to come."

FCC Order 24-78 requires both communications providers and state and local 9-1-1 authorities to modernize emergency communications systems for improved reliability and accuracy.

Intrado, based in Longmont, Colorado, provides emergency response technology solutions globally. AT&T serves more than 100 million U.S. customers.
