Quantum BioPharma's MS drug candidate nears phase 2 trials
Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) is advancing Lucid-MS, a patented drug candidate for multiple sclerosis, toward phase 2 clinical trials, according to a press release from the company.
Lucid-MS is described by the company as targeting the myelin sheath, the protective coating that MS progressively damages. The compound has shown the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models, according to the company.
More than 2.9 million people worldwide are currently living with MS. Approved treatments can slow the disease's progression but have not been shown to halt it entirely.
Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on treatments for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is developing Lucid-MS as its lead compound.
The company also holds a 19.84% ownership stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., as of March 31, 2026, a company spun out from Quantum BioPharma. Under a separate agreement, Quantum receives royalty payments of 7% of Unbuzzd product sales until payments reach $250 million, after which the royalty rate drops to 3% in perpetuity.
