Ameresco wins $5M+ water metering contracts in two Texas cities

Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC) has signed two Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) contracts with the cities of Baytown and Shenandoah, Texas, representing a combined investment of more than $5 million, according to a press release from the Framingham, Massachusetts-based company.

The contracts call for Ameresco to deploy smart water metering systems in both municipalities. In Baytown, the project will begin with a phased rollout targeting residential meters, aimed at reducing manual meter reading, improving meter accuracy, and enhancing leak detection capabilities.

In Shenandoah, Ameresco will replace or retrofit more than 1,700 water meters with solid-state meters and AMI endpoints. The city had been operating an Automatic Meter Reading system that had reached the end of its useful life. The new system will include a customer portal giving residents access to their water usage data.

Both projects include integration with each city's utility billing platform, system software, data integration, and long-term operational support.

"By deploying AMI technology in Baytown and Shenandoah, we're helping cities improve efficiency, strengthen customer trust, and better manage one of their most critical resources," said Louis Maltezos, Co-President of Ameresco.

Baytown City Manager Jason Reynolds said the project would give residents "direct access to their own water usage data" for the first time. Shenandoah City Administrator Sam Masiel said the technology would allow the city to "reduce water loss, respond faster to issues, and deliver a better overall customer experience."

Ameresco noted the projects were included in its previously reported awarded backlog as of May 31, 2026, and that contract announcements are not necessarily indicative of the timing or amount of related revenue.
