3M (NYSE: MMM) and Airbus have signed a long-term supply agreement to provide thermal and acoustic insulation solutions for the Airbus A220 aircraft, according to a press release from 3M.
Under the agreement, 3M will supply materials designed to improve the aircraft's operational performance through thermal insulation, while acoustic insulation will be integrated throughout the cabin to absorb and reduce engine and airframe noise.
"Our long-term agreement with Airbus reflects the value of deep collaboration in bringing advanced materials science to the future of aviation," said Eric Forbes, vice president of Aerospace and Defense at 3M. "Together, we are helping enhance both comfort and performance through technologies that passengers can feel directly in the cabin and that airlines can rely on across the life of the aircraft."
3M said it maintains an existing collaboration with Airbus across a broader range of solutions beyond the A220 program.
