Signify and Silicon Labs add dual-protocol support to Philips Hue bulbs

Signify and Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) announced a collaboration to enable concurrent Zigbee and Matter over Thread communication in select Philips Hue smart bulbs, according to a press release issued June 23, 2026.

The companies are using Silicon Labs' MG26 and SiMG301 wireless system-on-chip (SoC) components to support concurrent multiprotocol (CMP) operation on a single device. The technology allows Philips Hue bulbs to connect simultaneously to both the proprietary Hue ecosystem and Matter-compatible platforms, including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings.

Select Philips Hue bulbs using the Silicon Labs chips are currently available or being introduced across Philips Hue product lines. At present, users must choose between Zigbee or Thread at the time of device setup. A software update enabling concurrent operation of both protocols is planned for later in 2026.

"Our collaboration with Silicon Labs allows us to support the interoperability consumers want through Matter while preserving the advanced capabilities, entertainment experiences, and innovation available through the Hue ecosystem," said George Yianni, Chief Technology Officer of Philips Hue at Signify.

Ross Sabolcik, Senior Vice President of Product Lines at Silicon Labs, said the approach is intended to give consumers flexibility across ecosystems rather than requiring a choice between them.

Signify reported sales of €5.8 billion in 2025 and employs approximately 27,000 people across more than 70 markets.
