Rocket Lab launches U.S. Space Force mission in record 16 hours

Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ: RKLB) launched its Electron rocket for the U.S. Space Force's VICTUS HAZE Tactically Responsive Space mission on June 19, 2026, just 16 hours and 42 minutes after receiving a Notice to Launch from Space Systems Command's Space Safari Program Office, according to a company statement.

The launch lifted off from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand at 10:19 pm NZT. The turnaround time beats the previous record set by the VICTUS NOX mission by more than 10 hours.

The mission marks the first time a single prime contractor has provided a complete end-to-end package for a Tactically Responsive Space mission, including spacecraft design, build, launch, and on-orbit operations. Rocket Lab's Pioneer spacecraft was fully commissioned within 37 hours and 36 minutes, ahead of a 72-hour contractual deadline.

The spacecraft is now conducting Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) in low Earth orbit, maneuvering alongside a non-compliant satellite. Rocket Lab's guidance, navigation, and control team calculated final trajectories and updated flight software in approximately four hours before launch.

"Our launch-plus-spacecraft integrated mission capability is transformative for responsive space," said Rocket Lab founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck.

USSF Lt. Col. Lincoln Miller, Space Safari system program manager, said the mission "culminates the TacRS 'crawl, walk, run' phase of on-orbit demonstrations," adding that commissioning a complex spacecraft in under 72 hours and immediately beginning RPO operations demonstrates the ability to deny adversaries first-mover advantage.

The Pioneer spacecraft incorporates subsystems manufactured in-house by Rocket Lab, including propulsion, solar arrays, reaction wheels, radio, star trackers, structures, and flight software.
