AMTD group discloses share repurchase totals, plans to expand buybacks
AMTD IDEA Group (NYSE: AMTD; SGX: HKB), AMTD Digital Inc. (NYSE: HKD), and The Generation Essentials Group (NYSE: TGE; LSE: TGE) have disclosed cumulative share repurchase figures under their existing buyback programs, according to a joint press release from the group.
As of the announcement date, AMTD IDEA Group had repurchased approximately 4,417,036 American depositary shares, AMTD Digital had repurchased approximately 2,798,473 American depositary shares, and TGE had repurchased approximately 284,538 ordinary shares.
The boards of directors of the three listed entities stated that current share prices are significantly undervalued relative to total asset value per share and net asset value per share. The boards also stated their opposition to short-selling activities, which they said distort market perception.
The group said it intends to continue existing repurchase programs and, where appropriate, increase the scale of repurchases. AMTD also said it plans to launch a global roadshow to engage with investors.
AMTD Group is a conglomerate with operations spanning media, entertainment, hospitality, and financial technology. Its holdings include the media brands L'Officiel and The Art Newspaper, a hotel portfolio of approximately 1,000 guest rooms across four continents, and a stake in EleBank, one of Hong Kong's eight licensed digital banks.
