Jim Hagemann Snabe, a board member of C3 AI (NYSE: AI) and special advisor to its chief executive, has been appointed by the European Commission as Special Envoy for Industrial Artificial Intelligence, according to a company press release.
In the role, Snabe will advise Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen on topics including AI infrastructure, data centers, high-performance computing, semiconductor supply chains, large language models, and the application of AI across industrial sectors. He is expected to deliver a report to inform the Commission's work. The position is unpaid and runs through March 31, 2027.
Snabe will take a leave of absence from his C3 AI board seat and his advisory role to Chief Executive Thomas M. Siebel for the duration of the appointment. He is expected to return to both roles when his service concludes.
Snabe currently serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG and holds board seats at Bloom Energy and Temasek. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum. Earlier in his career, he was co-CEO of SAP and later served as Chairman of A.P. Møller–Maersk and Vice Chairman of Allianz SE.
