Hyperfine forms neurosurgery advisory council for portable MRI

Hyperfine, Inc. (Nasdaq: HYPR) has formed a Neurosurgery Advisory Council composed of nine neurosurgeons from academic medical centers and community hospitals across the United States, Canada, and Turkey, according to a company statement.

The council will provide guidance on the potential role of Hyperfine's Swoop portable MRI system in neurosurgical care, including surgical workflow integration, product development, and clinical evidence generation. Members represent expertise in craniotomy, endovascular neurosurgery, transsphenoidal surgery, and tumor resection, among other procedures.

The council's scope covers the full neurosurgical care pathway, from preoperative planning and intraoperative decision-making to postoperative monitoring and discharge.

"The neurosurgical community has long recognized the value of intraoperative MRI, but access has been limited by the substantial infrastructure requirements, cost, and workflow demands of having a high-field MRI system in the OR," said Edmond Knopp, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Hyperfine.

Initial council members include neurosurgeons from Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, the University at Buffalo, Thomas Jefferson University, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and St. Michael's Hospital at Unity Health Toronto, among other institutions.

The Swoop system is FDA-cleared for brain imaging in patients of all ages and is described by the company as a portable, ultra-low-field magnetic resonance imaging device. Hyperfine is based in Guilford, Connecticut.
