Butterfly Network's ultrasound chips power Midjourney's body scanner

Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY) confirmed its technology is being used in a full-body ultrasound scanner developed by Midjourney Medical, following Midjourney's public announcement of the device.

The current prototype incorporates 40 of Butterfly's Ultrasound-on-Chip modules per system. Future versions are expected to use a larger number of modules. The collaboration operates under Butterfly Embedded, Butterfly's chip licensing and co-development business, formerly known as Octiv.

Butterfly previously disclosed the agreement in a Form 8-K filed on November 17, 2025, which outlined up to $74 million in expected payments to Butterfly over a five-year term.

"We're proud to support Midjourney's mission to democratize access to personal imaging data," said Joseph DeVivo, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Butterfly Network. "The vision and roadmap Founder David Holz introduced yesterday also represents a potentially meaningful commercial opportunity for Butterfly."

The Midjourney Scanner is described as a tomographic, full-body imaging machine designed for regular use without radiation or magnetic risk. Butterfly's press release states the device features approximately 500,000 sensors scanning simultaneously with more than two petaflops of processing power.
