NorthStrive files two patent applications for muscle preservation

PMGC Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ELAB) announced that its subsidiary, NorthStrive Biosciences Inc., filed two U.S. patent applications directed at preserving lean muscle mass in patients undergoing GLP-1 and obesity-related weight loss treatments.

The applications have been assigned U.S. Patent Application Nos. 19/709,895 for EL-22 and 19/709,950 for EL-32. The filings expand NorthStrive's existing intellectual property portfolio from animal health and agricultural applications into potential human pharmaceutical uses.

Both applications cover the potential use of EL-22 and EL-32 to preserve lean muscle mass in patients experiencing muscle loss from conditions including sarcopenia, obesity-related weight loss treatment, malnutrition, neurogenic atrophy, and physical inactivity. The filings specifically address GLP-1 receptor agonist therapies as well as dual and triple agonist therapies targeting GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon pathways.

The EL-22 application includes claims involving myostatin-derived Myo-2 peptide constructs, including isolated Myo-2 peptides, Myo-2 peptide multimers, and related fusion proteins. The EL-32 application covers a microorganism transformed with a cell surface display vector linked to genes encoding myostatin and activin A proteins, with embodiments involving lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus paracasei.

Both filings also include combination and co-administration approaches involving EL-22 or EL-32 taken together with apelin or ursolic acid. The applications cover multiple delivery formats, including oral, injectable, nasal, and topical forms.

According to the company's statement, the filings are based on a press release issued June 18, 2026, and are intended to extend the EL-22 and EL-32 inventions to human patients in the GLP-1 and obesity-related weight loss market.
