Trump says US military to remain in Gulf after Iran deal

June 17, 2026 3:25 PM EDT

Investing.com -- President Donald Trump said today that U.S. military forces will stay in the Gulf region "for a while" following an agreement between Washington and Tehran that ended nearly four months of conflict.

Speaking to reporters in Paris, Trump said the Iran deal will be signed within the next 48 hours.

The president commented on Iran's ballistic missile capabilities, stating that if other countries possess such weapons, it is "a little bit unfair" for Iran not to have any.

Trump also said that 60 days is not a firm deadline for reaching a final agreement with Iran.
