Polyrizon patent application for nasal drug delivery platform published in U.S.
Polyrizon Ltd. (Nasdaq: PLRZ), a development-stage biotech company based in Raanana, Israel, announced the publication of U.S. patent application No. US 2024/0358741 A1, titled "Mucoadhesive Polymers for Nasal Drug Delivery."
The application covers the company's Trap & Target mucoadhesive polymer technology platform, which is designed to enhance the interaction between pharmaceutical formulations and the nasal mucosa. According to the company, the technology aims to increase formulation retention, improve drug absorption, and enable delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients through the nasal route.
The application describes biocompatible mucoadhesive compositions that combine sulfated polysaccharides with hydrophilic polymers, partially crosslinked with divalent ions. The resulting formulations are described as having improved viscosity, sprayability, and film-forming properties on mucosal surfaces.
The patent application outlines potential uses across oral and nasal drug delivery systems, including sprays, gels, and inhalation products for both localized and systemic administration. The platform may support delivery of anti-inflammatory drugs, vaccines, and biologics, according to the application.
Polyrizon noted that its Trap & Target technology is in an earlier stage of pre-clinical development, distinct from its Capture and Contain hydrogel technology, which is focused on forming a barrier against viruses and allergens in the nasal cavity. The company cautioned that no assurance can be given that any patent will issue from the pending application.
