Stratasys launches flame-retardant FDM material for rail use

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) has launched FDM PA6/66-GF30-FR, a flame-retardant composite material intended for rail and transportation manufacturers producing certified end-use and spare parts, according to a company statement.

The material meets EN 45545-2 HL2 (R22/R23) and FMVSS 302 fire safety standards. It uses a PA 6/66 base polymer reinforced with 30% glass fiber and is compatible with SUP4050B breakaway supports for post-processing. Stratasys said the material is available for use on its Fortus 450mc and F900 systems.

Lorenzo Gasparoni, 3D Printing Program Manager at Alstom Group, said the material "supports reliable, repeatable production of qualified spare parts, along with streamlined, easy support removal using SUP4050B."

Christian Ochs, Head of Additive Manufacturing at Siemens Mobility GmbH, said additive manufacturing enables "complex, application-specific parts on demand," supporting maintenance efficiency and lifecycle management in rail systems.

Rich Garrity, Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys, said the launch "demonstrates our excellence in design for mobility applications" and is part of a strategic focus on mobility, transportation, automotive, and industrial segments.
