Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has been awarded a statewide contract by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services to participate in HealthChoice Illinois, the state's Medicaid managed care program, covering all 102 counties.
The plan is scheduled to go live in January 2027. Humana has operated in Illinois for more than a decade, previously serving dual-eligible members through the Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative and, as of January 1, 2026, through the state's Fully Integrated Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan.
"It's an honor to care for more Illinois Medicaid members and their families," said Samantha Olds Frey, Humana's Medicaid President in Illinois. "Our goal has always been to provide whole-person care across every generation, from children to older adults, and HealthChoice Illinois lets us do that."
As part of its involvement, Humana has disclosed several community partnerships tied to the program. On maternal health, the company is working with the Illinois Public Health Association to address workforce shortages in high-disparity counties. For behavioral health, Humana is collaborating with Southern Illinois University's Behavioral Health Workforce Center and with Brightpoint to support a wellness center in Chicago's Belmont Cragin neighborhood. On housing, Humana is partnering with Mercy Housing Lakefront to provide transitional housing support for members.
